Hagi no Tsuki

What springs to your mind when you hear “souvenirs from Sendai” ?

Perhaps you think of gifts such as Sasa kamaboko,Zundamochi, or something like Shiramatsuga monaka.

There are many delicious foods in Sendai(Miyagi) but I’ll introduce just one to you “Haginotsuki”produced by Kashosanzen!

□What is “Haginotsuki”?

The confectionery “Haginotsuki” is a round fluffy sponge cake (pao de Castella in Portugeuse) and there is mild custard cream inside. The name of “Haginotsuki” is a combination of the words  “Hagi”and “Tsuki”. “Hagi,” the Japanese bush clover, is the official flower of Miyagi Prefecture, and “tsuki” is “moon” in Japanese. The name is from the image of the full moon shining in an area of the prefecture called Miyagino where there are many clovers blooming.

“Haginotsuki” has been loved by people live in Miyagi Prefecture.

People who live outside of Miyagi are glad every time a relative from Sendai brings “Haginotsuki” as a souvenir.

Why don’t you buy “Haginotsuki” when you come to Sendai ? You will surely like it!

□How to have “Haginotsuki”

There are notes in the package that say, “It’s better to keep it in a refrigerator”.

However, according to a popular TV show, some people who live in Miyagi seem to heat it in a microwave for about 20 seconds before eating.
